The Secret To Keeping Your For-Sale Home Clutter-free
Published March 17, 2023
How do you live in your house while it’s on the market? This question comes from sellers who have done a great job preparing their houses by decluttering and preparing them for potential buyers. However, certain items such as toothbrushes and toys for children are still necessary.
One of my biggest tips for those with kids, pets, or any personal belongings is to have every family member invest in a laundry basket where they’ll keep their belongings. Each person can keep one laundry basket worth of stuff, such as a coffee maker for the husband, a dollhouse or stuffed animal for the kids, or personal craft supplies.
When there is a showing, or the family leaves for school, all the items go into the laundry basket. This saves whoever is at home from having to gather everything. Once you have your baskets filled, load them and any pets in the car, then drive away.
It’s that simple. Everyone gets to live minimally, picking only the items that fit into their laundry basket. This ensures the house is not cluttered with unnecessary items when potential buyers visit. Toothbrushes, toys, and books for reading are allowed, but clutter is not. This way, everyone has what they need, and potential buyers can see themselves in the house without any distractions.
